Capt Yak is a one of the most reputable and affordable tour excursions in Tampa Bay.

Capt Yak offers year-round guided kayak tours just ten minutes from St. Pete Beach. Tour departure times are based on the tide and weather to ensure the easiest and most enjoyable paddle. The sit-on-top kayaks are manufactured for the tour industry and kayak fishing; this means they are very stable and provide easy paddling. All of Capt Yak kayaks are equipped with seats that have excellent back support for your upmost comfort.

The Capt Yak Shell Key Tour

You will be taken on an Amazing Adventure in a one-of-a-kind Mangrove Preserve.

Capt. Yak (Greg) has been exploring Shell Key Preserve for many years and knows it like that back of his hand. You will be lead through the preserve to areas that will be sure to find unique creatures that live below and above the water.

You will paddle with ease on the some of the newest, most comfortable and best paddling Sit-On-Top Single or Tandem Kayaks.

We will venture through mangrove tunnels, over beds of seagrasses and sandbars while encountering wildlife. Midway we will stop on Shell Key. You can take a stroll, swim, find that perfect shell or just relax and take in the surroundings.

On the return trip Capt. Yak will continue to share his knowledge and mesmerize you by the stories he shares with you.

Departure times vary between 9:00am-3:00pm and are based on tide levels to ensure the Most Memorable Experience!

The Shell Key Sunset Tour

Back by popular demand, this tour is available only for a limited time — November thru March

Capt Yak will keep you captivated throughout the tour with his knowledge of the Wildlife and History of the area.

Tour departs two hours prior to Sunset.

You will paddle back in the twilight as the sun sets.

This tour is great for couples, family, friends and coworkers.

The Exclusive Private Tour

Whether it is for your company, your family, or your school; our private tour is an unforgettable team-building exercise. Our Shell Key Private Tour can accommodate 2-24 paddlers.

This tour can be from 3 - 6 hours long depending on how long your group wants to spend on Shell Key to swim and relax.

Did you rent a pavilion at another location, live on a lake or river and want to have kayaks available for guests to go out and explore? We are fully customizable and can bring the kayaks and equipment to you.

The Fort De Soto E-Bike Tour

Please call ahead for availability .

This is a private history and wildlife tour for 2-6 people

  • Tour duration: 2- 1/2 hrs

  • Bike riding experience required (not for beginners)

  • Bikes are “pedal assist” You must pedal while riding

  • Some walking involved during tour

  • Must be under 275lbs between 4'10"”- 6’ 5”

  • 15+ accompanied by an adult

  • Must be in physical health

  • No alcohol, smoking or vaping

  • Pass a safety & use presentation upon arrival

  • Closed toe shoes (no flip-flops or crocs).

  • Helmet provided but you can bring your own

  • Sunglasses, sunscreen, cell phone/camera.

  • Bottled water and/or snacks (Drink holder provided)

  • A backpack is suggested for carrying multiple items.

Prior to departure you will be fitted with an earpiece that is connected to a receiver so you can hear the guide the entire experience. You will not miss anything said by the guide while biking and is also a great safety feature.

A safety and bike introduction tutorial will be conducted with each person prior to taking off on your adventure.

You will start your experience at Capt Yak's kayak launch area just outside the Fort De Soto park entrance.

Your Guide will take you into the park passing over a bridge overlooking Shell Key Preserve on one side and Pinellas National Wildlife Refuge on the other. E-bikes will be taken to the historic fort, and walk our guests through the 100 year old gun batteries bunkers, and the historic museum, we'll visit Fort De Soto's fishing pier giving our guests a look at the Gulf of Mexico and the Egmont Key channel, with ships entering and exiting the harbor, as well as the possibilities of seeing dolphins and manatees at play. While there you can stop for the restrooms as well as ice cream, drinks and other refreshment. We will continue on the E-bikes through the park to Arrowhead Picnic area passing Buncess Pass and Shell key., our final stop will be at East Beach where you can take a quick dip and enjoy the view of the Magnificent Sunshine Skyway Bridge. This tour will be filled with unforgettable History and Beautiful wildlife.
