If you have never Kayaked Shell Key Preserve and want to be guaranteed to be able to enjoy the Mangrove Preserve to it’s fullest, we suggest you sign up for one of the 5 Star excursions.
If you do decided to take advantage of the rental service you will find the equipment clean and ready for you to start your adventure when you arrive!
You will find our equipment to be some of the best paddling and most comfortable in the area.

You will meet Capt Yak to start your self-guided kayak rental at the Pinellas Bayway Kayak and SUP Launch. Upon arrival, Capt Yak will give you a tutorial on the kayak equipment and paddling, and provide you with a life vest and safety instructions. You will also be provided with a map of the area and offer route suggestions based on the tide, weather and boat traffic.
There are a number of options available based on your kayaking experience and preference. You can paddle around mangrove islands, explore one of the many mangrove tunnels, make your way to one of the beach areas for some relaxation, shelling, swimming or just paddle around the preserve and take in the abundant wildlife.
For the more experienced, you could paddle out to the Gulf and make your way around the island through the channels on either end based on the weather. No matter what route you take you will be sure to enjoy this vital eco-system.

OUR FLEET
Our single kayaks are Perception Pescador Pro 10 & 12 foot and Wilderness Tarpon 105. These kayaks are outfitted with adjustable foot pegs and comfortable seats with back support that will help make your time on the water more enjoyable.

Cresent Tandem Kayaks where added to the fleet April 2023. If you want a comfortable, easy paddling and stable kayak to enjoy your time on the water, this is the kayak for a couple, adult or small child or two teens. Adjustable seats with back support will add to the ease of your paddle.
WEIGHT LIMIT 500 LBS
The SUP+ is a Hybrid Paddle Board/Kayak. This is the most stable, easy paddling Hybrid on the Market. You can Stand, sit or kneel. The board will be outfitted with a seat, kayak paddle and paddle board paddle. No experience needed! Free lesson!

Paddling times are approximate and will vary according to the guest’s skill and the current water conditions.

We reserve the right to cancel or alter trips because of weather or water conditions.
Fishing in the preserve is permitted with a valid fishing license.
There is no alcohol or pets allowed in the preserve.
Late returns will be given a Fifteen(15) minute grace period; after which guests will be charged a $10.00 USD per kayak fee hourly.
Guests ages 17 and under must be accompanied by a paying adult.
