Frequently Asked Questions

What should we bring on our tour?

Hat, Sunscreen, Bug Repellent, Water/Sports Drinks, Snacks/Light lunch, Swimwear/Comfortable Clothing, Waterproof Shoes/Sandals, Camera/Cell Phone, Waterproof Case/Bag, Small Cooler, Gratuity for your Guide.

What is the best Kayak to use on a Capt Yak Tour?

If you are 6’4” or taller, or 240lbs or over, it is suggested you go in a double kayak with another person; or ask for our tandem kayak to be rigged as a single. Taller paddlers will definitely be more comfortable. The double kayaks can also be utilized for a single person by modifying the seat location.

Children between 5 - 13 years old should go in the front seat of a double kayak. An adult or teen over 14 should paddle in the rear seat.

A third center seat can be added in our double kayaks for children between 2 - 4 years old so they can ride along but not paddle. There is also no charge for this third seat as long as the other two seats are occupied.

Guests 14 - 18 years old tend to have more fun in single kayaks.

If you want to take the easiest paddle and have better opportunities to take photos and enjoy your surroundings, we suggest to go in a double kayak with a buddy.

Can we bring alcohol on our Capt Yak Tour?

Our tours are in preserve, so it is not advised. Always bring water and or sports drinks to keep hydrated.

Can we bring our pet?

We are animal lovers but since we are paddling in a preserve you can not bring your Pet on a Capt Yak Tour.

What if it rains?

We constantly check the weather and will not go out if it is evident the weather will be bad. Decisions are typically made as early as the evening prior to your reservation or as late as 3 hours prior to departure. If your reservation is cancelled because of weather you will have the opportunity to reschedule. If you are not able to reschedule you will be refunded your total payment.

Tours are 3 hours long, I don't know if I can paddle that long?

Yes, the entire kayak tour is about 3 hrs, however, we do not paddle the entire time. Everyone is able to go at their own pace. We make multiple stops to allow everyone to group up, rest and talk about the things we see. There is also a 20 - 30 minute stop at Shell Key halfway through the tour to, swim, have a snack or just take everything in.

I have my own kayak, paddle board and equipment, can I bring it?

You are welcome to bring and use your own equipment. Contact Capt Yak for space availability and special rates.
